"Friends Across the Sea"
Featuring artists from Mendocino's Japanese Sister City, Miasa-Omachi

Seven artists from the Miasa-Omachi area in Nagano Prefecture are exhibiting their artwork as part of the third biennial Sister Cities Art Exchange Show.

The goals are to continue the Art Exchange exhibits that began in 2008 to coincide with the annual student exchange and further expand the connection between our two towns.

Mendocino Art Center founder Bill Zacha and artist Toshi Yoshida formalized the sister city relationship in 1980.

The 2nd Saturday Artists Reception, May 12 from 5 pm to 8 pm, will include three live events – a traditional Japanese tea ceremony will be presented by Noboru Hirabayashi on the outdoor stage of the Avery Deck, followed by a calligraphy demonstration by Suikyo Isshi in one of the Art Center studios, and a Taiko drumming performance by at the end of the evening.
